I have known Lois Shepard for the past five years during which I have practiced orthopaedic surgery, specifically arthroplasty, at Centinela Hospital. She had been working at the hospital prior to my arrival and was extremely helpful,
accommodating and responsive to detail during the period when I was establishing surgical routine in our operating room. Through that
period, Lois demonstrated a wonderful capacity for organizing every detail of the surgical equipment and the operating room.

I have always been impressed with her initiative in checking small details and important equipment prior to surgery. Knowing that she would be handling a case was sufficient cause for relaxation, giving reassurance that everything would be in order.

Lois very quickly learned my idiosyncracies such that together we could function as a team and provide the patient with the smoothest possible experience while under anesthesia. This was not
just my experience, but one which other surgeons in our department would certainly vouch for.

Lois was also very willing and eager to train new personnel. She took an interest in them as individuals and was attentive to their strengths and weaknesses. If there has ever been any
shortcoming in her performance, it was simply the times that she applied her own high standards to those around her. Without
exception, however, those whom she has trained have been able to function competently.

It is with regret that I learned of Lois move to another city. It is clearly our loss at Centinela Hospital and the gain of whichever institution she joins.
